American Airlines is introducing its new grab-and-go Provisions by Admirals Club concept at New York’s JFK airport. The grab-and-go concept was first introduced in Charlotte last year, and this will mark the airline’s second among its Admirals Club network.
Unlike a traditional Admirals Club lounge, Provisions by Admirals Clubs are smaller and is designed for short, quick visits and to serve high volume traffic. Passengers with a short connection, or those who prefer to arrive at the airport with minimal time before departure, can make a quick stop at a grab-and-go lounge to access Admirals Club amenities.
Passengers can enjoy prepackaged meals and beverages that can be taken outside of the lounge and onto the plane. Agents are also available for assistance, just like at usual Admirals Clubs.
The new lounge at JFK will span 3,700 square feet, located between gates 12 and 14 in the airline’s Terminal 8.
“The Provisions by Admirals Club space creates a more flexible lounge experience — one that combines thoughtful design, elevated beverages and quick access to fresh options, all while helping serve more customers, more efficiently,” said American’s Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden. “By listening to our customers and understanding how they move through the airport, we’re adding even more convenience, bringing premium access closer to where many of them begin their travels.”
The new Provisions lounge will also include a barista bar in the middle, a first for an Admirals Club. Passengers can “…enjoy a curated menu of hot and cold coffee drinks, prepared by a barista and customized to their preferences,” American explained.
The airline recently began offering Lavazza coffee at lounges and onboard, which will be the main feature at the barista bar:

I’m excited to try this out
I, for one, am excited to try out this new lounge. While it’s not a traditional Admirals Club, the location is redeeming.
JFK’s Admirals Club is located in the satellite building, which requires a bit of a walk through the tunnel from the main building. This can make for a detour if you have a flight out of the main building:

The new grab-and-go lounge somewhat eliminates the need to make that detour, given it’s located in the main building. While I still see myself making the journey to the Admirals Club through the tunnel, this will be a nice additional option to have when I’m on a domestic flight without access to the airline’s joint premium lounges with British Airways.
I’ve yet to try the Provisions by Admirals Club in Charlotte, but the ability to grab snacks, a prepackaged meal, or even just a water bottle and have it on the plane is valuable, especially on a long cross-country or an international flight in Main Cabin.
Admirals Club access rules
Access rules are the same as traditional Admirals Clubs. Passengers with an Admirals Club membership, AAdvantage Platinum members and up on a qualifying international flight, and Flagship First and Flagship Business class passengers get access.
A one-day pass can also be purchased for $79 or 7,900 miles. These are valid for 24 hours, and you can access multiple lounges throughout your trip, given you have a valid American Airlines boarding pass.
I access Admirals Clubs with my Citi AAdvantage Executive Card, which comes with an Admirals Club membership. Its annual fee of $595 is a substantial discount compared to the $850 it would cost to pay for an Admirals Club membership outright. The card also comes with numerous other benefits I like, such as the 10,000 Loyalty Points bonuses when you hit 50,000 and 90,000 Loyalty Points.
