American Enhances Lounge Catering With More Hot Items, More Variety

Flagship Lounges will now include a QR code-enabled a la carte menu, while Admirals Clubs will get two additional hot items.

American Airlines is giving its lounge catering an upgrade with more variety and more hot items. The improvements involve both its Flagship Lounges and Admirals Clubs, as the airline continues to make investments in premium experiences.

Flagship Lounges

Passengers visiting American’s Flagship Lounges can find a bigger selection of a la carte dishes and small plates, in addition to more interactive dining stations, such as a cheese-monger cart.

American will also roll out a QR code-enabled a la carte menu for passengers to make remote orders. The airline had been trialing this in its new Philadelphia Flagship Lounge and is expanding this to the rest of its network after positive feedback.

The carrier’s special summer selections will include:

  • Watermelon cucumber feta salad: Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW)
  • Pineapple carpaccio: Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW)
  • Ham and egg chive waffle: Chicago (ORD)
  • Thai basil and chili crispy shrimp: Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Citrus-rum shrimp: Miami (MIA)
  • Sour cherry cheesecake: Philadelphia (PHL)

Flagship Lounges today do have a wide selection of food, but it is mostly limited to its buffet section. The addition of the QR code-enabled menu should be a welcome addition, as more a la carte options are always a good thing.

Admirals Clubs

At Admirals Clubs, the airline will place two additional hot items, in addition to rotating its menu more frequently.

The airline will also upgrade its charcuterie selection, enhancing “both quality and visual appeal.”

The biggest improvement by far would be the addition of two hot items. While it doesn’t sound like a lot, American’s biggest shortcoming with its Admirals Clubs has always surrounded its lack of food options. You were out of luck if you didn’t find any of the limited hot items appetizing, or if you simply had a hard time putting a meal together with what’s available.

And for those of us who visit Admirals Clubs on a regular basis, a frequently rotating menu would be nice to see.

  • Lemon her chicken and mac and cheese bar: Denver (DEN), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), St. Louis (STL), Toronto (YYZ)
  • Chipotle lime chicken: Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Austin (AUS), Houston (IAH), Nashville (BNA)
  • Coconut turmeric chickpea and vegetable curry: Miami (MIA)
  • Build-your-own breakfast tostada: Charlotte (CLT), Raleigh-Durham (RDU), Washington, D.C. (DCA)
  • Rustic zucchini and flame-roasted corn: Los Angeles (LAX), Phoenix (PHX), Santa Ana, California (SNA), San Francisco (SFO)
