American Airlines first announced its new Flagship Business Suites on their Boeing 787-9 and A321XLRs back in September 2022, 3 and a half years ago now. Back then, these were scheduled to enter service in “early 2024.” They undoubtedly had delays, but the airline has finally received its first delivery just now.
The aircraft is N846AN, a Boeing 787-9. The jet departed Everett at 11:40 local time and arrived in DFW at 16:54, local time.

This was also highlighted by aviation watchdog JonNYC, who has been on top of these new deliveries.
According to him, we could see these planes in service between Chicago and Los Angeles once daily and Chicago to London once daily starting in June. It’s important to remember that American hasn’t publily announced this yet and we could see changes.
The New Flagship Business Suites

The highlight of these new deliveries of the 787-9 and the A321XLRs is the new Flagship Business Suites. The new 787-9s in particular come in a higher premium configuration. To put it simply, they have more premium seats and fewer economy class seats. There will be 51 Flagship Suite seats, which is 21 more than the current configuration on the same aircraft type.

The suites feature privacy doors and modern design, and passengers can enjoy a solid upgrade from the current product. Remember that the first row includes the elevated Flagship Suite Preferred seating as well, which includes elevated amenities and even more space.
Although the delays, it’s good to see progress moving forward with their new Flagship Suite product. Every new delivery here helps American’s shortage of widebody aircraft asl well.
