When Do World of Hyatt Points Expire?

By Shawn Gallagher November 18, 2024

We all go through times where we get caught up in life and have less time to travel. Something to keep in mind during those times are your rewards programs and their points expiring. Some programs have points expire after a given time of inactivity, and World of Hyatt points are one of them.

After 24 months of inactivity in your account, all of your World of Hyatt points will expire and your account balance will return to 0. Once these points expire, there is no way to reinstate those points.

However, there are many different ways to keep your World of Hyatt account active in addition to staying at Hyatt properties. Let’s go over those options and see how we can keep your account active.

1. Get a World of Hyatt Credit Card

If you have the World of Hyatt Credit Card, your points will never expire. Just pay the $95 annual fee every year.

2. Book and Stay at a Hyatt Property

The most straightforward way to keep your World of Hyatt account active is to book and stay at a Hyatt property. It has to be booked through Hyatt, not with third-party websites like Booking.com or Expedia.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a paid stay or an award stay. As long as you book a stay through Hyatt, you’re all set.

3. Buy Bonus Points

You can also buy Hyatt points through their website. Although I don’t recommend doing this often, as you aren’t getting a good rate for buying points, it can be a good way to keep your World of Hyatt account active when you have to, as soon as possible.

Hyatt does occasionally runs promotions for buying points, which can get you a good bonus when buying a certain amount of points.

4. Gift of Receive Points

Gifting points to another World of Hyatt member is another way to bring activity to your account. The receiver will also have their expiration clock reset as well.

Transferring Hyatt points is free. For this reason, this can be a good way to keep your account active, especially if you choose to transfer to a family member or a close friend.

Bottom Line

Losing your points is not a good feeling; similar to losing several hundred dollars out of your wallet. World of Hyatt points have good value, and many people enjoy additional award trips with these points every year. It’s important to keep in mind of how long your points are good for, so that you can keep utilizing the good value these Hyatt points have.
