A security inspector at Tokyo Haneda Airport was arrested after allegedly stealing cash from a passenger during security screening.
According to reports and statements from Tokyo police, the suspect was arrested after an incident on 13 September 2025, where a passenger noticed 90,000 yen missing from his bag after going through security at Terminal 1.
The suspect allegedly pretended to adjust the passenger’s luggage while he stole the 90,000 yen of cash, putting it in his chest pocket. Airport surveillance footage identified the actions.
Tokyo police believe the security inspector stole a total of 1.5 million yen (equating to $10,252) from 70 to 80 passengers beginning in August.
The security inspector was employed by a security company contracted by Japan Airlines and had been working in the security screening area of Terminal 1. The airline issued an apology statement:
“A security inspector at Haneda Airport Terminal 1 was arrested on 13 September after allegedly stealing cash from passengers. We sincerely apologize for the incident, and we are cooperating with the police. We will promptly consider how to address this matter for affected customers and will provide information on our website.”
Japan Airlines is the main operator at Haneda Airport’s Terminal 1, handling domestic flights. Skymark Airlines and StarFlyer also occupy a portion of the terminal.
