Oman Air Joins Oneworld: What Does This Mean for AAdvantage?

Oneworld frequent flyers can now enjoy Oman Air’s network of 42 destinations across 22 countries.

Oman Air is officially part of Oneworld. It’s the 15th member airline for the alliance, and complements Qatar Airways for Middle East coverage for travelers.

Elite members of Sindbad, Oman Air’s frequent flyer program, will now have full access to Oneworld frequent flyer benefits whenever traveling on a partner airline. Passengers now have access to over 700 lounges across the globe and opportunities to earn miles on other airlines. All of these benefits added just overnight? That’s a pretty big deal.

For other Oneworld frequent flyers, the airline offers 42 destinations across 22 countries, giving solid options to plan a trip both through the Middle East and beyond.

American Airlines AAdvantage members can earn miles on Oman Air-marketed and operated flights at the same rate as an American Airlines flight, with base members earning 5 miles per dollar. Elite status holders also get their bonus: Ruby with a 40% bonus, Platinum with a 60% bonus, Platinum Pro with an 80% bonus, and Executive Platinum 120%. You’ll also earn Loyalty Points by flying Oman Air.

We’re still waiting to hear about redeeming AAdvantage miles for Oman Air flights, but I expect to learn the details soon. That said, Oman Air’s coverage more or less complements Qatar Airways’ network. I don’t think it’s a game-changer in terms of finding new destinations via AAdvantage, but more award space is always welcome, considering how Qatar Airways can sometimes be stingy with award space.

Either way, the addition of Oman Air is a premium one. The award-winning airline offers a fantastic onboard product with its competitive premium cabins. This also puts Oman Air on a bigger, global stage, as Oneworld passengers from other parts of the world will have more opportunities to fly their airline.

Although they don’t fly to the US directly, it’s a solid option for the destination it serves, and I welcome this addition as an AAdvantage frequent flyer.
