JetBlue A220 Slides Off Runway Upon Landing at Boston Logan Airport

No one was injured after JetBlue Flight 312 slid off the runway during landing. Logan Airport passengers should expect residual delays.

JetBlue flight B6312 with service from Chicago O’Hare to Boston Logan slid off the runway as it landed Thursday morning. Massachusetts State Police confirmed that there were no injuries.

The FAA had issued a ground stop for flights to Boston, but that has transitioned into a ground delay program as of 14:20 EST.

The flight is still visible on Flightradar24, and you can see a clear veer to the left of the runway as it sits on the grass. It’s surrounded by many Logan Airport vehicles.

The aircraft involved is N3242J, a brand-new, 6-month-old Airbus A220-300 delivered to JetBlue back in January 2025.

The flight landed on runway 33L, which is now closed. At this time, the airport is utilizing runway 22R for takeoffs and runways 22L and 27 for landings. This is pretty much considered standard operations at Logan, so I don’t expect the current delays to get much worse as we continue this afternoon.

Still though, residual delays are to be expected, especially surrounding flights that were affected by the ground stop.

Conditions at Logan today have been clear but quite breezy, with winds from 270 at 19 knots.

Passengers were evacuated with the assistance of the Boston Fire Department.

According to interviews by WCVB News, pilots appear to have made an announcement after coming to a full stop, saying that they “lost control of the steering on landing.” Other passengers noted that the aircraft went into the grass at a low speed.

JetBlue said in a statement:

“On Thursday, June 12, JetBlue flight 312 from Chicago to Boston veered off the runway and onto the grass after landing. No injuries were reported. Customers safely deplaned and were bussed to the terminal. Safety is JetBlue’s top priority. We will conduct a full investigation of the incident and will work closely with the relevant authorities to understand the cause.”

With the tragedy in the skies today related to Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad, India, it’s important to remember to let investigators do their jobs, and I would advise everyone to be cautious of jumping to conclusions. The same applies to this JetBlue incident.
