Japan saw 3.4 million foreign visitors enter the country in August, a new record for the month. The figure is an increase of 16.9% year over year, as inbound tourism into the country shows no signs of slowing down.
School holidays around the world fueled the high number of visitors, aided by the continuously weak Yen.
In total, 28 million foreign travelers have entered Japan so far this year.
Visitor numbers in July from several countries in Asia fell amid fears over a fictional earthquake prediction by a manga artist. Travel from most of these nations recovered in August, with the exception of Hong Kong and Singapore.
The nation welcomed over 1 million visitors from China, while over 660,000 arrived from South Korea, and over 620,000 from Taiwan.
Over 194,000 American tourists entered Japan in August, up 11.7% year over year. Yearly growth has slowed to a certain extent compared to earlier this year, but is holding steady:

Meanwhile, the number of Japanese overseas travelers rose 14.7% year over year to a figure of 1.6 million. Despite the weak currency, more and more Japanese travelers are continuing to take their eyes to foreign destinations, albeit slowly.
