I recently had the chance to stay at the Hyatt Place Kyoto. The experience was phenomenal, with friendly service and a very well built hotel. It did not feel like a typical Hyatt Place, it instead felt like a place that’s more upscale.
This is without a doubt one of the best hotels of the Hyatt Place brand. Keep reading for my Hyatt Place Kyoto review!
Cost
If you’re looking to use your Hyatt points, this is a Category 2 hotel.
Category 2 hotels cost 6500 points during off-peak times, 8000 points during standard times, and 9500 points during peak times.

The Hotel Location
The Hyatt Place Kyoto is located 4 stations north of Kyoto Station. It’s right above a subway station, which is very convenient whenever you’re on the go.
The subway station, Marutamachi Station, is right outside the hotel entrance.
Kyoto is a fairly spread out city, so you’ll be some distance away from certain destinations no matter where you stay. Having a subway station easily accessible is as good as it gets.
Checking In
I checked in online on the Hyatt app, but I still had to go to the desk. The staff were very friendly and all smiles. They all speak and greet you in English, so no worries about a language barrier.
I made my way to my room.
This isn’t a huge hotel. As with most other buildings in Kyoto, it’s not a tall building either. The top floor was my 6th floor.
The Room
The room isn’t the most spacious, but it was very clean and comfortable.
The couch turns into a sofa bed.
Some rooms come with a bathtub. Mine didn’t, but I believe they come with the double or deluxe rooms.
Universal power outlets were by the TV. The rest of the power outlets around the room were the standard form.
I thought this was very interesting. Instead of water bottles, the hotel provided a water jug to use at the water filling machine near the elevators. I actually preferred this over the traditional water bottles, since I didn’t have to worry about running out of water overnight.
There was an ice machine as well. These are on each floor, so they aren’t a far distance from any room.
Lobby Amenities
Breakfast ran from 6:30am to 10:30am. Unfortunately, breakfast is free only for Globalist members. Although Hyatt Place breakfasts are often free in the United States, that’s not always the case overseas.
This Nespresso machine was free to use. Mugs are provided in the room for this machine.
This lobby bar had all sorts of beverages and snacks. It’s a good place to relax outside of your room.
Also in the lobby were some toiletries and other necessities that were free to grab.
Concluding Thoughts
I think this is one of the best hotels of the Hyatt Place brand. Its design makes it feel more upscale than other Hyatt Place hotels, the location with the subway station is very convenient, and the generous cost for all of this makes it well worth it.
If you’re looking to hit any of these points on your hotel search for Kyoto, I highly recommend the Hyatt Place Kyoto.
