Electric Glitch Knocks 144 Toilets Out of Service at Tokyo Haneda Airport

The electric malfunction was repaired at around 4 p.m. on Friday.

Nearly 70% of toilets at Tokyo Haneda Airport’s Terminal 2 were out of service due to an electric glitch on Nov. 28, 2025.

According to reports, an airport worker began raising flags regarding the terminal’s toilets not flushing at around 5 a.m. The malfunction disrupted passenger flow and put pressure on terminal operations.

The airport operator, Japan Airport Terminal Co., placed signs and posters throughout the terminal to guide passengers to employee restroom facilities during the day, which had remained mostly functional.

Terminal 2 is occupied by All Nippon Airways, which operates its domestic flights and a portion of its international flights from the building. Smaller carriers such as Air Do and Solaseed Air also occupy parts of the terminal.

The electrical glitch was repaired around 4 p.m. on the same day, and operations returned to normal.

Buckets of water were seen throughout the terminal, as airport workers manually flushed toilets with them when necessary.

“We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and trouble caused to them over such a long period of time,” the airport said in a statement. “Regarding the cause of the problem, it was determined that the water supply pump had stopped due to a fault in the electrical system.”
