TPG reported yesterday that Comfort Plus passengers on long-haul Delta flights can begin preselecting meals. This is currently a thing only for Premium Select and Delta One flyers, but this will now stretch down to Comfort Plus.
Long-haul international and Hawaii flights will get this perk. Shorter flights to Iceland to Colombia are not included.

Prior to departure (usually a week in advance), you’ll get an email that looks like this. Meals can be selected up to 24 hours before your flight.
This addition of this perk further differentiates Comfort Plus and Main Cabin. Passengers can take more time thinking about their meal instead of hastily choosing an option on the spot during meal time. There’s also the “comfort” factor (no pun intended) of knowing that the flight attendants won’t run out of your meal of choice, although this should never be an issue in Comfort Plus as they’re seated ahead of Main Cabin.

I do think this is more of a help for Delta operationally. This can speed up the food serving process as the flight attendants know what to serve for each Comfort Plus passenger. It’s also more data for the airline to collect to see what people prefer. At the end of the day as passengers, there isn’t much to look forward to about economy class meals.
I generally prefer the “quickly serve the meal and shut the lights off” style on international flights. So if you like that, this might be nice.
