Delta Announces an Update to the Fly Delta App

The app is bringing a few new features, but it’s not a total overhaul by any means.

Delta has announced that starting today, passengers will have access to the latest app update, which they call “Fly Delta 7.0.” It’s not a full overhaul of the app, but the airline is adding a few key features.

First, the update allows Platinum and Diamond Medallion members to see when upgrade certificates are available when booking on the app. This was previously a functionality that was only available on the website, but the app is now getting this too.

In addition, the airline notes that “Choice Benefit selection will exclusively be available through the Fly Delta app,” starting on June 1.

The next part of the update takes advantage of the newer iOS features. Live Activities is now coming to the Fly Delta App, where flight information will be readily available on the lock screen and Dynamic Island.

American Airlines added this in their app update last month, and Delta is now following suit. I’m a fan of this Live Activities feature that many apps have, so I’m pleased to see that airlines are utilizing this.

Note that you have to have iOS 16 for this feature, and this is not available for Android.

I’ve always thought that Delta’s app was “okay.” It’s not a terrible app by any means, as it gives me the information I need when I travel and runs alright. But I’ve felt like they could do a little more with it; add more features, tweak some designs, and integrate iOS stuff.

This new update is a start, with the addition of a few features. But as I said in the beginning, it’s not a total overhaul of the app.
