Cathay Pacific Extends Free Wi-Fi to Gold Members

The airline plans to extend complimentary access to Premium Economy passengers by the end of the year.

Cathay Pacific offers Wi-Fi on 100% of its fleet, from narrowbody short-haul flights to widebody long-haul flights over the Pacific.

Starting Nov. 15, the airline extended its free Wi-Fi access to Gold Members. The full list of those with complimentary access is now as follows:

  • Cathay Pacific Diamond members
  • Cathay Pacific Gold members
  • First Class
  • Business Class

Additionally, the airline is expected to extend free Wi-Fi to those in Premium Economy by the end of the year, regardless of status.

Cathay Pacific uses Intelsat’s 2Ku satellite technology, which offers decent speeds for internet browsing and messaging. It may not compare to the speeds of Intelsat’s multi-orbit IFC or Starlink, but passengers can rely on its sizable coverage around the world.

As seen in the image below, there are little gaps of coverage across the globe:

For those without status and not in a premium cabin, the pricing goes as follows:

  • Flight times of six hours or less: USD 12.95
  • Flight times above six hours: USD 19.95 to USD 24.95
  • One hour of continuous use on all flights: USD 9.95

Passengers can also purchase a Message Pass on flights of six hours or less for USD 3.95, which will allow receiving and sending text messages on services like WhatsApp, iMessages, Facebook Messenger, LINE, and WeChat.
