Yesterday, Avianca announced that they are selecting the new Terminal 6 for its future operations at JFK. They will make the move next year once construction of the new terminal is completed. The South American airline is joining Air Canada, ANA, Cathay Pacific, JetBlue, Lufthansa, SWISS, and others in this new “state-of-the-art” terminal.
Avianca currently operates out of Terminal 4. It looks like they will continue their full operations there and move to the new terminal at once when construction is complete.
“We are thrilled to welcome Avianca as our 14th T6 airline and the first South American carrier to operate from the new terminal in 2026,” said Steve Thody, CEO, JFK Millennium Partners, the company in charge of building and operating the new terminal.

Although all of the construction at JFK has been a headache lately, the initial renderings of these new terminals look fantastic. Avianca passengers will get to enjoy “digital-first, boutique guest experience, with a less than 5-minute average walk from the TSA security checkpoint exit to all gates.”
Avianca and JFK Millennium Partners also add that passengers will find “extensive biometric-enabled, self-service bag drop facilities, 100,000 square feet of NYC-inspired shopping, dining, lounges and amenities, curated public art, sustainable operating features, and premium guest experience throughout the terminal.”
