ANA Expects First 787-9 With ‘The Room FX’ Business Class in August 2026

The Room FX business class seats will offer a more consistent premium experience across the airline’s fleet.

All Nippon Airways is expecting its first Boeing 787-9 with its new ‘The Room FX’ business class product to be delivered in August 2026, according to ANA Chairman and ANA Holdings CEO Koji Shibata. The new product was introduced last year during the 2025 Paris Airshow and will offer an elevated experience over the current seats on the Boeing 787.

This means that ANA passengers may start to see the new business class products on select routes beginning in fall 2026.

Shibata spoke on the airline’s fleet plan for 2026, stating that the carrier is looking forward to a year with many new deliveries. In addition to the new 787-9s, the airline is also expecting deliveries of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 to begin in June 2026.

The airline’s The Room FX is an expansion of its The Room business class product on some of its Boeing 777-300ERs.

These seats do not recline, much like the business class seats see on Finnair.

Designed and delivered in partnership with Acuman and Safran, the airline had to figure out ways to fit the preexisting The Room concept in the smaller Boeing 787 fuselage. According to PaxEx.Aero, ANA initially considered a simple, smaller version of the same The Room product currently on the 777. Although it would’ve fit, they ultimately went with this new The Room FX seat after seeing challenges and compromises in design.

This new configuration on the 787-9 will have 48 The Room FX seats with a total of 206 seats. The current high J configuration on this aircraft has 215 seats; ANA will be removing one row of economy class as a compromise.

Having a firm delivery date is good news for the airline and its passengers. The current seats are now a decade old, and The Room FX seats will offer a more consistent premium experience across the fleet, though the rest of the airline’s 787s will still sport the old seats for now.

Meanwhile, ANA’s Boeing 777X delivery continues to see delays. Shibata explained that the airline is prepared for the effects of its delayed flagship aircraft, and is expecting delivery in 2027.
