American to Offer Tequila Inflight, Expand Onboard Menu

Passengers can enjoy tequila and an expanded buy on board menu starting on June 1, and those in premium cabins can enjoy new snack basket offerings starting on June 11.

American Airlines has announced more changes and additions to its inflight experience. Starting June 1, passengers can enjoy tequila on select flights and an expansion of the buy on board menu. On June 11, passengers in premium cabins can also enjoy new snack basket offerings.

For the tequila, the airline selected Dallas-Fort Worth’s award-winning Socorro Tequila.

“Socorro Tequila is crafted in the highlands of Jalisco using traditional methods and 100% Blue Weber agave. Known for its clean, additive-free profile, Socorro Tequila delivers a premium flavor that will elevate any journey at 35,000 feet,” American said in a press release.

This offering will be available on all flights by the end of June.

In addition to tequila, the buy on board menu will expand on June 1 as well. The additions include a steak and pimento cheese sandwich, tray table tapas (above photo), and Brooklyn Biltong Steakhouse Air Dried Beef Jerky. These will be available on mainline routes starting at 1,100 miles.

All of this is in addition to the new Tostitos Snack Box that was introduced last month and other current offerings.

American will also expand its snack offerings in premium cabins starting on June 11. Passengers can enjoy a new “midday basket” in addition to the morning and afternoon snack baskets that are currently offered.

Here’s what the snack basket offering looks like now:

  • Morning snack basket: Fresh clementine, B’cuz Cherry Pistachio Granola Bites, Think Jerky Free-Range Turkey Stick, Blake’s Seed-Based Breakfast Bar +Protein, Bare Organic Apple Chips and Wonderful Sea Salt & Pepper Pistachios
  • Midday snack basket: Tate’s Chocolate Chip Cookies, Garrett White Cheddar Popcorn, Cooper’s Cheese Straws, Cooper Street Granola Bakes, BobbySue’s Nuts Everything Goes Nuts and Think Jerky Grass-Fed Beef Stick
  • Afternoon snack basket: Homefree Vanilla Mini Cookies; Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt Chips; Over Easy Almond & Raisins Oat Bar; CauliPuffs White Cheddar Corn, Rice and Cauliflower Puffed Snack; Wonderful Sea Salt & Pepper Pistachios; and Think Jerky Grass-Fed Beef Stick

American’s Inflight Experience

I’ve begun to notice a small pattern lately, with American trying to improve their onboard experience with additional offerings of snacks and beverages, and others. I feel like we’ve been on a bit of a roll since the introduction of free Wi-Fi, and I’m all for these new additions.

These obviously aren’t big changes, but it’s something. I’m just happy to see American go on a streak of inflight experience improvements.
