American Airlines has announced a new lounge concept called Provisions by Admirals Club, which is set to debut in Charlotte later this summer. This lounge is aimed at passengers who are on the go and need a quick stop or a quick bite somewhere.
The Charlotte lounge will be located by gate A1 in Concourse A.
This lounge will feature one-on-one customer support from on-site reps, food options including a variety of sandwiches, salads, snacks, fruit, and vegetarian options, and a design that well supports a “quick stop” environment.
American hopes to accommodate high-volume traffic for this concept while continuing to work on its new approach to customer experience. Access is the same as a traditional Admirals Club, which is through eligible AAdvantage and Oneworld status, the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard, or a one-day pass.
This is similar to United’s Club Fly or Delta’s Grab and Go. American calls this “innovative,” but I don’t think they’re the first to come up with this concept.
“We are constantly evolving our lounge strategy to meet the needs of our customers,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “This new concept provides a needed respite for our customers traveling through one of our biggest hubs. Whether they’re looking for a quick snack or help on their travel journey, they can find what they need at the Provisions by Admirals Club lounge.”
I think this is a good concept as long as it accompanies the traditional Admiral’s Clubs. American is launching this concept for those on the go, so passengers should have the option to choose what’s best for their travel. If I need a quick stop to grab a sandwich, maybe I can head over to this new Provisions lounge. If I want a longer stay to relax, the Admirals Club should still be there.
As long as the passengers are able to make this choice, I’ll welcome this new concept. After all, I’m glad that American has been trying a lot of new things lately, and Heather Garboden, the airline’s Chief Customer Officer, seems to have the right vision in mind for customer experience.
