American Airlines to Offer Afternoon Tea and Other New Snacks

More small changes to American’s passenger experience include an afternoon tea experience and new snacks.

American Airlines today announced several new, albeit small, additions to its inflight experience. Passengers can now enjoy new flavors and bites on the plane.

First, the airline will now offer a Tostitos Snack Box, “a crowd-pleasing combo of Tostitos Bite Sized Rounds and Tostitos Chunky Salsa.” This will be offered on flights longer than 1,300 miles and can be purchased for $9, or 900 AAdvantage miles.

Second, passengers will begin to see LaCroix Limoncello on their flights. The airline notes that this was voted in by American Airlines customers and team members.

Perhaps most notably, American Airlines will now begin “testing a new afternoon tea experience.” This is reserved for inbound flights from London and Paris only. All passengers in all cabins will be able to enjoy this afternoon tea.

I thought that this was a rather interesting new addition to come from American. They’re clearly trying something new, and I wonder how it’ll compare to the offerings on British Airways or Virgin Atlantic.

It’s been interesting seeing the small bits of changes in American’s passenger experience lately. Even in this announcement, they also briefly included that they will no longer be collecting Bang & Olufsen headphones before landing in premium cabins.

American still have a ways to go, but I feel like we’ve been on a bit of a roll lately since beginning to trial the free Wi-Fi. I have no idea how the afternoon tea experience will turn out, but at least they’re trying something new (I say this as a long-time American Airlines flyer that’s trying to be optimistic 😉).

  1. Allegiant sells a larger bag of Tostitos with options of salsa or cheese dip for only $8. And does so on every single flight, even those under an hour. Congrats AA!
