American Airlines is rolling out an app update that will provide passengers with more control during flight delays and cancellations, with a new and dedicated section for such disruptions. These changes are designed to make travel disruptions easier to navigate and reduce the need for reliance on customer service chats, calls, and in-person lines at the airport.
The app enhancements will allow passengers to easily find necessary information and quickly take action on fixing their ticket during disruptions, instead of waiting and relying on chats, calls, and long lines inside airports.
“Our new app enhancements are unlike anything else in the industry because they don’t just explain why travel was disrupted, they help customers take action,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “We’re giving travelers real-time options, real control and real peace of mind when they need it most. With personalized choices that fit individual needs, these tools empower customers to take charge of their journey.”

When any form of disruption occurs to a flight, passengers will immediately be able to access a dedicated section on the app’s home screen, like in the image above. The interface provides essential and useful tools during delays and cancellations, offering options to rebook, track checked bags, and access hotel, meal, and transportation vouchers.
This could mean that most disruptions and rebookings can be resolved in a matter of minutes, all on the American Airlines app’s home screen.
The app also has rideshare options, such as Uber and Lyft, built in (American Airlines earns commission).
Later this year, American Airlines has plans to further add enhancements to its app, including self-service standby, more flexible rebooking options, and more hotel, meal, and transportation support.
