Another Hyatt property in Tokyo will go live next week: Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo. This hotel is taking reservations starting from Tuesday, Oct. 7, and it will mark the first Caption by Hyatt property in Tokyo.
Once the Park Hyatt reopens in December, visitors will have eight Hyatt hotels to choose from in various parts of the city. Tokyo continues to be a hot spot for foreign visitors, and a new property in a central part of the city should be a welcome option for World of Hyatt members.
Location & Convenience
Purely based on location, this Caption by Hyatt will be one of, if not the best located Hyatt hotel in Tokyo. I think it’s on par with the Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo, which I often note as the most conveniently located Hyatt in the city.
Note that this hotel is in Kabutocho, NOT Kabukicho in Shinjuku. I’ve seen many comments and discussions on Reddit and other sites confusing these two names, which are two very different locations and vibes.

The hotel is within walking distance of Tokyo Station, which is a hub for both Shinkansen and regular train service, and is easy to get to from both Haneda and Narita Airports. It’s also right by a couple of other subway stations.
The immediate area has an abundance of food and shopping options, and Tokyo Station itself is also a spot for that. Although the Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo may have a bit more to do around there, I don’t think guests will have any trouble finding things to do while staying at this Caption.
The location will be quieter at night, compared to the Centric in Ginza, the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi, or the Hyatt House in Shibuya. If you’re looking for a convenient, centrally located property but still prefer a quieter vibe, this hotel should be the one (Source: I’ve biked through this area at 2am in the past).
Cash Rates, Redeeming Points
This hotel will be a category 5. Unfortunately, the lack of a category 4 and below continues in Tokyo. Points bookings will cost 17,000 during off-peak, 20,000 during standard, and 23,000 points during peak periods.

Cash rates are mostly in the mid to high $200s, while some rooms hit $300. This was the case for rooms next week, a random weekday in November, and a weekend in January.

To be blunt, I don’t think the rooms are anything posh or incredibly impressive for the rates/points you’d pay/redeem (as evident from seeing other Caption by Hyatt properties). The rooms will be small and more utilitarian, aside from the lively design and art inside. Much of the cost is associated with the hotel’s location and the travel demand into Tokyo.
I would look at it as you’re paying for a convenient place to sleep at night, while you’re outside touring the city for much of the day.

Rooms and Suites
As I said about the rooms, they’re on the smaller end and are perhaps more utilitarian if you ignore the fun and colorful design inside.

Standard rooms begin at 231 square feet (22 square meters) with the 1 double bed room, while a king bed room measures 269 square feet (25 square meters). A room with 2 twin beds measures 301 square feet (28 square meters), comparable to a deluxe king room.

There is a suite in this property, featuring a living room and a separate bedroom. This room type measures 581 square feet (54 square meters).

This suite also includes an in-unit washer/dryer, as seen in the image below. The Hyatt website doesn’t state this in its amenities section for this room for whatever reason, but I’m pretty certain that it’s included based on their images.

Bottom Line
The biggest strength of this new Caption by Hyatt will be its location and proximity to Tokyo Station. With the convenient transportation options, exploring the city and getting to and from the airport should be as easy at it gets for any Hyatt property in Tokyo.
As I said, the rooms, cash rates, and points redemptions make this place more of a utilitarian hotel. I think it’s a good place to stay while you explore the city all day, and come back to a centrally located hotel to sleep, but don’t expect a posh Hyatt Regency with larger rooms and more amenities.
