Japan Airlines is set to retire another Boeing 777-300ER, JA735J, after its final flight on Monday. The aircraft is operating flight JL1 from San Francisco to Tokyo Haneda, and will arrive on Tuesday, the 9th at 15:05 local time.
JA735J was delivered in July of 2006 and is now 19 years old. This is the third 777-300ER to hit retirement, joining JA734J and JA731J, which were retired in August 2024 and May 2025, respectively.
The airline is now left with 10 Boeing 777s in its fleet.

The aircraft is operating its final flight as I type this. It’s set to arrive in about 8 hours, at around 15:00 local time (02:00 EST) on 9 September 2025.
After arrival, the aircraft will stay in storage for some time in Haneda. In October, Japan Airlines will host multiple goodbye tours of the aircraft for enthusiasts. Tickets are on sale for 28,000 yen.

The Boeing 777-300ER on Japan Airlines includes 8 first class, 49 business class, 40 premium economy, and 147 economy class seats.
Although the seats continue to be solid options to cross the Pacific, they’re without a doubt beginning to show their age, especially when compared to the new Airbus A350-1000s.

Japan Airlines continues to receive deliveries of the A350-1000 as the 777 replacement and its new flagship aircraft. The airline received its 10th in July, and is scheduled to receive its 11th by the end of FY2025 (Japan’s fiscal year ends in March).
