United has issued a travel waiver for passengers going through Newark Airport for trips through May 17th. The mess at Newark, which has gotten predictably bad lately, particularly affects United flights as the airport serves as one of the airline’s largest hubs.
Newark currently has a ground delay of 239 minutes posted, while 76 flights have so far been cancelled today, according to Flightradar24.

The waiver is valid for tickets booked on or before May 4.
Passengers can reschedule trips without change fees and fare differences. The new flight has to be on United, and depart plus or minus 2 days of the original travel date.
The ticket must be on the same cabin and route, or transit through New York LaGuardia or Philadelphia.

This situation sucks for everyone. I also want to point out that passengers who don’t travel through Newark, but have inbound aircraft coming through Newark, are also affected. United’s aircraft and crew positioning is all over the place, and so although this travel waiver is a start, I expect that we’ll see more down the road.
I wish the best for passengers flying through Newark.
