An Update on American Airlines and Its New Boarding Groups

American Airlines has clarified the new preboarding process that is scheduled to begin on May 1.

Last Wednesday, American Airlines announced a few changes to its boarding process. I talked about it in this post. The biggest change is that First and Business class passengers will preboard with Concierge Key and families with children under 2.

One of the questions I had was how Concierge Key, families with children, and First/Business passengers would mesh together in one group. American seems to have addressed that here.

This is the version they will go with, and the press release is updated and shows this one.

Preboarding will be divided into three, with Concierge Key passengers first, then First/Business, and then families with children under 2.

By doing this, American Airlines is able to maintain the value of Concierge Key while separating First and Business class passengers from Executive Platinum, who remain in group 1.

I still wonder how it will be for families with children under 2. I obviously don’t fall in this category, so I can’t speak for them. If anybody has any thoughts, let me know in the comments.

There will be a lot of boarding announcements going forward, that’s for sure. This all starts on May 1st, and I’ll be flying that day. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on the boarding process and share my thoughts.
